2012 also sees the return of the long lost metal heroes (sorta) , gavan himself finally showed up after heavy hinting of its revival through recent secondary riders

what's with accel and birth look a LOT like winspector's bycle &walter, including their gimmicks, while meteor just plainly rips off gavan/sharivan's henshin method down to the "changing into energy ball" thing

who knows, maybe they'll finally make a new metal heroes series in 2012 (really hoping precure or that other anime on super hero time got shafted ad replaced by a metal hero show)

and i'm with everyone on a toku/rider game episode of rider break, especially because the recent climax heroes finally have showa riders in it(although the big 3 is still better in their PS1 versions).

also, REALLY looking forward to sigma's continuation, so good luck on that too

Time Judged All is one I listen to the most, but yeah, all Kushida's involvement made it hard to settle on just a few. And that's not even getting into any instrumental/BGM tracks...

I haven't listened yet (still have something like 80 hours to go on those HJU Ultraman Zero & Tokuo 101 Toys eps, haha) but I do have a couple of suggestions on the audio side of things:

- Is your podcast in stereo or mono? I've found that lower bitrates really give off that tinny, artifact-heavy sound when they're used in stereo recordings... but NOT when used for a mono one. 64kbps mono is perfectly clear for spoken recordings, and music even comes out pretty well. Just make sure you keep the sample rate at 44.100 kHz or higher.

- I've never used Audacity, but I HAVE used Sony's Sound Forge for several years. It's straightforward, clean, and most of all RELIABLE. I've used it for live online recordings that go 4 or 5 hours (or more,) and it's only crashed on me once (and that was more likely due to my PC at the time being pretty old & overworked.) There's lots of great editing & effect options, though I'd recommend Acid Pro for any actual track mixing (I've also been doing karaoke mixes involving various forum members for several years.) Both programs are great at what they do, and while they're not free, there's certainly ways around that like anything else available online.

Hope this is of some help to you, and while I'm here, I'd like to suggest an episode focusing on the HG gashapon series & it's various incarnations. Like you, I love that line like no other toyline & I really think people would be way more into it if they could really understand just how much is packed into such a small figure.

Here's a question for the mailbag: Do you think that, in the long run, the Rider franchise has benefited from the multiple breaks when no TV or movie projects were being produced (as opposed to Sentai, which has been produced nearly continuously since it began)?

It was good. The perfect length and variety of subjects for a lone host too. Things will get to 2-3 hour lengths if you take on co-hosts though.

Also if you're not gonna do this all that often, have you considered maybe bunching your podcast together as a supplement to HJU radio?

First off, I've wanted to hear you by yourself for a long time. When I listen to the HJU podcasts it's because I want to hear your opinions. Thank you for venturing out on your own like this.
From now on you'll probably want to go with a lower bitrate on the mp3 file, to conserve both storage space and your own personal bandwidth. Most podcasts I listen to, like Avex's Rider web radio and former suit actor Shocker Ono's, are around 64-96kbps.
You were speaking about Rider weapon toys being to scale, and then mentioned the Birth Buster. In the show, Satonaka's Buster was in fact the DX toy.

Somewhere in the vast archives of OWARI HQ is a promotional flier for the original VHS/LD release that was included as a bonus in an order I made to someone. There's a little blurb and picture for those two "cut-down" versions, and I'd always wondered what they entailed.

Since this was essentially a Bandai Visual project, I'm not surprised they'd try to maximize their profits by making kid-aimed, series-specific videos under the same banner. If I find that flier anytime soon, I'll scan it for you.

Fukuzawa was indeed one of the guys I was talking about, though I'm only familiar with him from his earlier stuff up to around 2000, where he was the main Grongi suit actor. Didn't realize he'd played so many reds since then!

Actually, according to Wikipedia--yeah I know--one of the suit actors for Ultraman here was Hirofumi Fukuzawa, who took over for Seiji Takaiwa in playing sentai reds. It also says that the action director was Jun Murakami, suit actor for Gavan and action director for the Den-O trilogy. It's also pretty interesting to see that producers Takadera, Shirakura, and Takebe were all 3 in on this project.

I have to say that I loved Movie Core War, especially in comparison with A-Z, which didn't really do it for me. I didn't find the Eternals that interesting, so I'm not really looking forward to W Returns that much. Also, I think that Tazaki is a talented and thoughtful nostalgic director. Give me his GAMERA THE BRAVE over Kaneko's 90's Gamera movies anyday. To me, there was an overall effective mood created in Movie Core War that seemed transcendent of the usual norm. At times, given the melancholy sadness of Nobunaga's story of displacement and loss in time, with the added use of little or minimal music and well-composed interesting shots using lots of vast negative sky space, it almost seemed like a live-action Rider movie directed by Makoto Shinkai. Also, I actually really like the 3-part re-logo split structure of these team-up movies.
