Series Guides
The original Kamen Rider series premiered one Saturday evening in April of 1971, and the world hasn't been the same since.
Despite proving a tough sell early on, when giant-sized heroes like Ultraman still ruled, Kamen Rider quickly gained popularity
thanks partly to the behind-the-scenes mayhem that brought about the advent of Rider 2 (and thankfully, the return of Rider 1 later
on) as well as a little snack called "Rider Chips". Created by Calbee, one of the show's main sponsors, they featured the simple
idea of putting a trading card in a bag of potato chips, and soon became a national phenomenon along with the TV series that
inspired them. Kamen Rider officially kicked off the "Henshin Boom" that lasted for many years thereafter, and just as significantly
launched "Ridermania", my pet name for the continued popularity of the franchise all the way up to today.

Using this Guide: I have provided here the episode titles in three ways; original Japanese text, a Romanization of the Japanese
(that is, Japanese words written in English) and an approximate English translation. Please note that translations are not official and
strictly of my own creation, as no official equivalent has yet been provided by Toei/Ishimori Pro. If you are unable to view the
Japanese text, you may need to download the appropriate language packs to display Asian fonts.
Translation: I prefer to leave a few certain words untranslated when going to full English, such as "Kaijin", simply because it
sounds cooler and less clunky than its English meaning(s) like "Strange/Mysterious Person", or "Shinigami" as opposed to
"Death-God", etc . The same goes for "Kamen Rider" as opposed to "Masked Rider". For individual Kaijin names like
"Kumo-Otoko", I provide a full English version in the actual episode title just so you know who we're talking about (i.e.
"Spider-Man"). Otherwise I try to keep the Kaijin names as close to the original Japanese as possible, unless it's something
obviously from English (like "Shingami-Chameleon" as opposed to "Shinigami-Kamereon"). If you've ever tried to translate from
Japanese to English (or vice versa) you know that it's not always easy, so please keep an open mind about word choice and order
here; if you've also seen episode #2 written as "The Terrifying Bat-Man", pick which one you prefer, because it can be read both
ways.
