Kazami Shirô
Kamen Rider V3
Kazami Shirô was a Jônan U. student and motorcycle-racing
enthusiast who also happened to be a disciple of Hongô
Takeshi/Kamen Rider 1. After the Double Riders defeated the
Gelshocker group, it seemed as though peace had returned at last.
Psyche! A new evil group, Destron, became active shortly thereafter
& set about its plans for world conquest & revenge against its
predecessors' destroyers. One night, Kazami witnesses the murder
of a man by Destron, and is quickly targeted by the nefarious group
himself. After several botched assassination attempts and other
tomfoolery, Destron sorta gets it right and kills not Kazami Shirô, but
his mother, his father, & his little sister (so goes the theme song.)

You can bet that the big K is not pleased. He asks Kamen Riders 1
& 2 (who Kazami learned the true identities of) to make him into a
cyborg like them. The Double Riders are reluctant to do so, as
becoming a Kamen Rider isn't all fun & games. There are the
obvious reasons; such as the pain of no longer being human anymore;
and the more subtle ones, like the fact that someone is constantly
plotting your imminent demise. Regardless, Kazami is hungry for
vengeance, and he winds up sneaking into a Destron base,
unbeknown to the Double Riders, who have snuck into the said base
unbeknown to Destron. But not for long. The Double Riders meet
the Leader of Destron, or at least his voice– and much to their
surprise, he turns out to be the Leader of Shocker & Gelshocker!

-Not an official special
power, but V3's
signature "punching the
camera" move (which is
a hand-me-down from
Riders 1 & 2) is but
one of many reasons
people love V3 so
much!
After blabbing on for a while about how they'll get it right this time and conquer the entire world, the Leader sics his Anti-Cyborg
laser on the Riders. Just as they are about to become crispy fried grasshoppers, Kazami interferes, but is critically wounded in the
process. The Double Riders are left with no choice but to turn Kazami into a cyborg. Just then, the deserted base comes under
attack by Destron mutant Kame-Bazooka and friends. The
Riders ala Kamen go to combat the new fiend, but he proves too
much for even our heroes. Suddenly, up on a hill, a new figure appears– Kamen Rider #3: Kamen Rider V3!
Yes, the Riders' operation was a success, and Kazami, now powered by the Double
Typhoon, joins his comrades in battle. Things go smoothly until it is revealed by
Hasami-Jaguar (the nasty cat feller who personally took out the rest of the Kazami
family) that Kame-Bazooka is carrying an internal Hydrogen Bomb, and is going to
blow all of Tokyo to itty-bitty pieces. Realizing they have no choice (yet again) the
Double Riders combine their powers to grab Kame-Bazooka and go flying off
towards the ocean. While V3 defeats Hasami-Jaguar, the battle is not without
tragedy, as the Double Riders appear to sacrifice themselves to save Tokyo from
utter destruction. Thus, V3 is on his own. Fortunately the cards are in his favor;
Kazami/V3 receives advice & training from Tachibana Tôbei, whom he forms a close
friendship with, as the Double Riders did. There's a new V3-flavored
Shônen Rider
Squad to help out, and the ever-lovely Tama Junko (whom Kazami saved from
Destron forces earlier) to provide a romantic interest. Alas, the latter goes
unfulfilled...for now, anyway...

V3, being made by both Riders 1 & 2, is like a combination of their powers. He
possesses both Rider 1's skill & Rider 2's strength, and a whole lot of other cool
stuff. In order to assure his victory against Destron, the Double Riders equip V3 with
an entire arsenal of hidden weapons & powers that make up the 26 Secrets of V3.
Some of these include the V3 Hanten Kick, a Rider Kick that allows V3 to strike his opponent twice in one flying kick; the V3
Hopper, a neat little gadget that resides on V3's belt, and allows him to see escaping enemy cars several kilometers away; not to
mention other handy-dandy tricks like the V3 Drill Attack, Red Bone Power & V3 Barrier that all come in useful at some point
during V3's quest for justice. And there's a ton of non-26 Secret attacks as well, including a gazillion variations of the V3 Kick.

V3's trusty motorcycle, the Hurricane, is made by the Double Riders using the technology of their New Cyclone motorcycles.
One of the sleekest Rider Machine designs yet, Hurricane is well-equipped for both speed & power. Able to leap great distances,
dodge land mine explosions and send mutants flying with powerful crashing attacks ("Hurricane Attack" and "Hurricane Last
Dash"), Hurricane is V3's irreplaceable partner. Hurricane looks like a normal motorcycle most of the time, and transforms
whenever Kazami does. It can also drive on its own, a detail that a number of later Rider Machines (culminating with the self-
conscious Battle Hopper and transforming Auto Bajin) would inherit.

During his crusade against Destron, V3 confronts & defeats the four high-ranking Destron Officers: Doktor G, Baron Fang, High
Priest Wing, & Marshal Armor. V3's Rogues Gallery is among one of the meanest in
Tokusatsu history; many of his villains
would have lesser heroes running for cover. Among the baddest-of-the-bad (and I mean that in a good way) are Hasami-Jaguar,
Kame-Bazooka, TV-Bae, Ika-Fire, Machine Gun-Snake, Gama-Boiler, Camera-Mosquito, Kani-Laser, Genshi-Tiger,
Kyuuketsu-Mammoth, Kamakube-Game, Zariganna & Sai-Tank, a monster so evil he disguised himself as Santa Claus to lure
children into joining Destron! These guys are really rotten to the core, and boast some wicked designs.

Along with Tachibana, Junko and the
Shônen Riders, V3 gets help from Interpol agents dubbed the "Destron Hunters". Well, one
of them anyway, since Doktor G single-handedly slaughters the rest of them in episode #30. The remaining guy is Sakuma Ken,
who's kinda like Taki if Taki needed Hongô & Ichmonji to save his butt all the time, instead of vice-versa. As you can guess, Ken
isn't quite on the same level as everyone's favorite FBI agent, and he tends to disappear faster than a bag of Rider Chips
whenever Destron shows up. He does actually help V3 once or twice, and proves to be a handy sidekick/human shield for the
few episodes he's in. On a side note, he'll finally get some respect in the
Kamen Rider Spirits comic, so good for him!

And hey– the Double Riders only faked death! They return alive & well to help out V3 for episodes #33~34, although technically
they arrived ahead of schedule in the second V3 movie, and during the Doktor G episodes they mailed our hero assorted life-
saving tips and trinkets, like telling V3 about his 4 Secret Weaknesses (3 of which are still secret to this day, in fact) and sending
him the Double Rider's Pendant. But the most important character V3 meets in his series came in episodes #43.
At first a new enemy, and eventually a great friend & ally: the former Destron
scientist-turned-avenging vigilante, Yuuki Jôji, alias Riderman! The odyssey
lasted until episode #51,  where Riderman appeared to die sacrificing himself
to save Tokyo. The grand finale of the entire Riderman saga is often regarded
as one of the best moments in Rider history. V3 himself declares his
apparently dead friend "Kamen Rider #4!". The final episode brings closure
to both this subplot and the series.

V3's final battle pits him against Marshal Armor's mutant form, Zariganna,
and the Leader of Destron himself, who V3 confronts after making his way
through every remaining Destron member around. While it appears as though
V3 defeats the Destron Leader, he finds a tape recorder in his skull (long
story), leaving us wondering if the real guy was ever there to begin with. Why
that sneaky little–! Anyway, Kazami Shirô rides off into the sunset, having
defeated Destron, and seemingly, the Leader of Destron himself.
Believe it or not, it eventually turns out Riderman survived, and upon returning to Japan he forms a powerful team with V3.
Kazami Shirô would provide a lot of help for Kamen Riders X & Stronger. And later, V3 would pop up a few times to help
Skyrider, and of course in all the following movies & whenever there were any big Rider get-togethers. In fact, V3 just might have
more guest appearances then anyone else, save Rider 1 & 2! (see below.)

Kamen Rider V3 is perhaps the second most popular Rider after Rider 1, and also one of the top merchandise sellers. V3's
popularity continues even today, with many fans embracing him as one of the heavy-hitting classics of the
Tokusatsu genre. The
V3 series was a huge hit in Japan, continuing off the popularity of the first series and spilling over its impact into
Kamen Rider X,
Kamen Rider Amazon,
& Kamen Rider Stronger (all five of these series ran continuously from 1971~1976). Oh, and the fact
that V3 was shown everywhere from Hong Kong to Hawaii didn't hurt either. Perhaps most importantly of all, actor Miyauchi
Hiroshi's love of the role and constant return appearances in later series & movies helped to reinforce the character as a symbol of
the Rider Franchise. If you need any more proof of that, check this out: Miyauchi pops up in the
Kamen Rider THE FIRST
movie as none other than Tachibana Tôbei! And not only that, but Kamen Rider V3 has to honor of being the only Rider show
yet released on subtitled Region 1 DVD in Hawaii!
Why not do your part as a Rider fan and pick up the boxset?

It's a safe bet that as his popularity continues to grow, V3 will be able to stand toe-to-toe with Rider 1 in the hearts & minds of
fans. Mom, Pop and Sis Kazami would be proud.

Kamen Rider X (1974)

Episode 27:
V3 appears along with the other four previous Riders to team up with X-Rider in what appears to be a
fantasy/dream sequence battle Tachibana describes to an audience in traditional Japanese storyteller form. Things get messy when
the guy Tôbei kicked off the stage earlier (for making the Riders look like a bunch of costumed buffoons) shows up and reveals
he's really Neptune, revived! The real Kamen Rider V3 shows up to help X-Rider fight Neptune and fellow revived GOD mutants
Medusa & Chimera.
Episode 28: V3 sticks around, gives Jin Keisuke some extra surgery to make him more powerful, and helps fight Achilles,
Salamandoras & newcomer Kumo-Napoleon. V3 really steals the show in this one!
Episode 33: Joins Rider 2 in helping X-Rider fight Mukade-Yôkihi.
Episode 34: V3 & Rider 2, still around, help X fight Tiger-Nero.

*Miyauchi Hiroshi appears in all above episodes.

Episode 37: V3 clears up a little misunderstanding between Riderman & Stronger, and all three fight the Delzer Army.
Episode 39: V3 finally gets to take on the real big man himself, the Great Leader of the Delzer Army, who is also the guy behind
Destron, along with the other 6 Riders.

~Movies/Specials/Other~

Kamen Rider V3 (1973): A big-screen, cropped version of episode #2. *Miyauchi Hiroshi appears!

Kamen Rider V3 vs. Destron Kaijin (1973): V3's all-new big-screen feature, where he takes on Doktor G's revived Kaijin
army, as well as new guy Taihô-Buffalo. The Double Riders arrive just in time for the big finale.
*Miyauchi Hiroshi appears!

5 Riders vs. King Dark (1974): Sure enough, V3 is among those 5 Riders taking on King Dark. Check out how Kazami Shirô's
stock footage Henshin (from the last movie) makes it appear as though he is halfway across Japan from the others, which is not
too far from the truth!
*Miyauchi Hiroshi appears via stock footage!

Back Together Again! 7 Kamen Riders!! (1976): V3 & the boys talk about  old times before fighting a new enemy.
*Miyauchi Hiroshi appears!

JAKQ Electric Shock Force vs. Goranger (1978): Yeah, yeah, yeah. It isn't a Kamen Rider movie per se, but V3 gets a
shout-out from JAKQ's boss, along with Kamen Rider Amazon & fellow Toei hero Kikaida. We also see a photo of each on a
map, and get a little snippet of their theme song. Apparently, V3 is helping to bust Crime heads in Europe while the Sentai teams
are runnin' around doing their thing.
*Miyauchi Hiroshi appears in two separate roles, but neither one of them is as V3!

8 Riders vs. Milky Way King (1980): V3 & the others show up to help out Skyrider against a revived Neoshocker mutant
army and the so-called Milky Way King, who goes by the name Ginga-Ô in Japanese. Take that, evil space computer!

Kamen Rider Super-1 (1981): Miyauchi Hiroshi at least provides the voice for V3 is this exciting little flick. *Miyauchi
Hiroshi's voice appears!

Number Ten's Birth! Kamen Riders Back Together Again!! (1984): V3 plays a pivotal role in helping ZX learn what he
really is, and keeping Riderman & Super-1 from becoming victims of collateral damage. But man, are his antennae floppy in this
TV Special!
*Miyauchi Hiroshi appears!

Kamen Rider: SD Riders (1993): V3 hangs around with X-Rider & Super-1, and totally botches RX's chance for getting a
girlfriend, only to get her instead! A slick one, that V3!

Ultraman vs. Kamen Rider (1994): Along with Moritsugu Kôji (Moroboshi Dan/Ultraseven & much later, Tennôji in Kamen
Rider Blade
!), one of the many Tsuburayas, and the late, great Ishinomori himself, Miyauchi Hiroshi is interviewed about his days
on the set of
Kamen Rider V3!  *Miyauchi Hiroshi appears!

Kamen Rider Live 2000 (2000): Holy Moley, Miyauchi Hiroshi busts in on the proceedings to join in singing "Fight! Kamen
Rider V3"!!! He then talks about the old days (and gets Mizuki Ichirô to jokingly confuse his many other super hero roles) before
kicking revived Shocker butt as V3. V3 who defeats Shadow Moon with one of the 26 Secrets, V3 Thunder.
*Miyauchi
Hiroshi appears!

Kamen Rider: Genealogy Of Justice (Sony Playstation 2, 2003): Yeah, so it's just a game, but it may as well be cannon, it's
THAT good. V3 plays a big part in the game's story, especially in regards to his on-going struggle with Riderman. Plus he gets to
go toe-to-toe with Doctor Shinigami & company!
*Miyauchi Hiroshi's voice appears!

Kamen Rider THE FIRST (2005): Okay, so he isn't really playing V3, but Miyauchi Hiroshi steps into the shoes of the
legendary Tachibana for a cameo role in the 2005 re-imagining of the original story, and imparts a few words of wisdom on our
main man Hongô. It's also implied he also gets to meet Ichimonji at some point because, well, where else does Rider 2 get his
motorcycle from, right?
*Miyauchi Hiroshi appears!
