Oki Kazuya
Oki Kazuya was a member of the International Space Development
Program, aspiring astronaut and highly-skilled martial artist. He
volunteered to be the first to undergo the cybernetic surgery that
would turn him into an astronaut for the 21st Century, able to
withstand the vacuum of space without a bulky suit and thus able to
further expand humanity’s reach into the stars. When the series
opens, Oki’s already in the United States of America, meeting with a
team of bigwig scientists, lead by the brilliant Doctor Henry. After a
long operation, Oki is ready to roll as the first successfully
government-sanctioned
Kaizô-Ningen, codenamed “Super-1".

Unfortunately, things quickly go bad as the Dogma Kingdom,  evil
organization
du jour, attacks and kills everybody except Oki. Not
only is this a major setback for the space program as we know it, but
our main man pretty much got turned into a cyborg for nothing now!
Deciding to rectify this situation, Oki heads back to Japan, and seeks
out the council of his old
Sekishin Shorin Ken (Sincere Shaolin Fist)
teacher, Master Genkai. After getting the entire school thrown at him
(no really– tons of guys just come out of the woodwork in an attempt
to beat him to a pulp), Oki learns how to Henshin, and decides he’s
ready to go toe-to-toe with Dogma. He hooks up with Tani Genjirô,
his new sidekicks Choro & Harumi, and somewhere along the line,
acquires a handy device called the “Check Machine” that can detect
and repair damage to his cybernetic body.

The stage is then set for the battle between Kamen Rider Super-1 & the Dogma
Kingdom!

Being a professional martial artist, Super-1 is armed with a WIDE variety of
techniques and maneuvers (I mean, just look at that list) many of which he acquires
through intense training. Thus, there are plenty of "train to overcome Dogma Kingdom
enemies through the power within" moments, as well as ridiculously long, overly-
complex attack names. Super-1 has this habit of flipping around in midair a lot while
yelling "Super Rider" prior to executing many of his moves, it looks pretty cool actually.

Super-1 mixes these age-old techniques with cutting-edge, high-tech weaponry.
He's armed with the Five Hands, interchangeable hand weapons. By doing a circular
motion thing with his arms and calling out the name of the hand, he can change hands at
will. The little colored bars on the sides of his belt also light up depending on the hand
being summoned. The “Super Hands” also double as his default silver gloves. As for
the rest, "Power Hands" are the strong red hands that allow him to dish out Power
Punches and Megaton Punches; "
Reinetsu Hands" are the green gloves that can shoot
fire from one and a freezing mist from the other; "Eleki Hands" are blue mitts capable
of dishing out electric beams; and the "Radar Hands" are the gold gloves that fire
tracking missiles and boast built-in radar screens.
Super-1 has two motorcycles, the insanely large and complex V-Jet and more lightweight Blue Version. V-Jet actually has two
names; “V-Machine” for how it looks most of the time, and “V-Jet” for when it’s in the mode where all the fins, lights, and other
extra thingies pop out, as seen during the opening sequence and elsewhere. And yes– it's a Harley! VROOOOM!
As for the oddly-named Blue Version, it's the speedier one for those times when V-Jet just isn't fast enough. And considering V-
Jet is supposed to have like, space shuttle rocket booster engines, I guess Blue Version must be
really fast.

As previously mentioned, Supes goes up against the Dogma Kingdom & its leader, Emperor Terramacro, from episodes #1~23.
Dogma is unique from previous groups in that its legions seem a bit more “robotic” than usual; the monsters are more mechanical
looking, and the henchmen appear to be highly advanced androids, or at least very mechanized cyborgs. In a change of pace from
previous enemies, they are a lot more upfront in their operations. I mean, they essentially attack NASA and get away with it!
Also interesting is that Terramacro is front and center from the first episode, but hangs
around in the background most of the time while his flunky Megaal Shôgun does the
messy stuff. Super-1 defeats Megaal in episode #23, and does in Terramacro in #24,
after the latter, in the full Kaijin form of Kaizer Grow (an inexplicable warping of
"Crow"), kills Master Genkai and the rest of Super-1's
Sekishin Shôrin Ken allies.
But the threat isn’t over yet; it turns out the Dogma Kingdom was just a vanguard for
Jindogma, led by Marshal Akuma. Super-1 battles with them for the rest of the series
until the final episode, #48.

This point in the show marks the beginning of a slightly lighter mood, at least
compared to the more straightforward earlier episodes. Oki & Tani set up the Junior
Riders, an update on the old
Shônen Riders, except with even younger kids who
don't seem to help Super-1 so much as just get in trouble so he has to come bail 'em
out. And while the Dogma Kingdom Kaijin were a little bit wackier than, say,
Shocker or Destron’s hordes, Jindogma beats them all. I love Jindogma as much as
the next evil group, but it’s hard to defend their credibility as a threat to humanity
when our hero is stopped in his tracks by walking, talking Refrigerators, Umbrellas,
Lighters, & my personal favorite, a Utility Ladder Kaijin.
On the plus side, Jindogma does feature the first two real female Major
Officers in a Rider series, which is pretty cool. There’s also a twist revelation
in the final episodes: it turns out the Dogma & Jindogma ringleaders are
members of the B26 Dark Nebula Gang, and therefore aliens. Yeah, it
probably isn't too surprising, since we found out that the Great Leader comes
from outer space back in
Kamen Rider Stronger, but hey– at least it
accounts for their weird tastes in Kaijin!

In the last episode, Super-1 defeats Marshal Akuma (in his mutant form,
Satan Snake) with the help of a really BIG sword. Oki Kazuya then bids
farewell to his friends and finally fulfills his dream of traveling into outer space
(but he's back on good old Earth by his next appearance, of course.) While
Super-1 doesn't get any help from the other Riders in his TV show, they do
save his butt big time in his theatrical debut. I really can't emphasize that
enough, you have to see it to believe it.
I would probably have to say that Kamen Rider Super-1 is the one of the crazier Rider series along with New Kamen Rider,
especially in regards to the villains. However, both are often overlooked gems, and
Super-1 has garnered its share of fans in large
part because of the utter coolness of Super-1 himself. And you know me, the crazier the better, so I'll recommend
Super-1 as
readily as any of the others, although I'd probably tell people to try and see the original series or
Kamen Rider X first, before
diving into a show where the main hero takes on a monster made of killer Basketballs.

Episode 44: The gang heads back to Japan to save RX from getting hammered into the ground by Granzairus.
Episode 45: Super-1 & the Rider team fight evil. Super-1 fans take note, the Reinetsu Hands see use here!
Episode 46: Supes & the others help RX as the end draws near.
Episode 47: Super-1 & his 9 fellow Riders leave the last battle for RX, but they're around for the ending.

~Movies/Specials/Other~

Kamen Rider Super-1 (1981): Super-1 gets his own movie, and this time he’s up against five all-new Kaijin (which was a lot for
a movie back then!) There’s also a cool flying dragon ship that Dogma unearths to help them cause a little mayhem.  Master
Genkai kills one of the villains bare-handed, which is a definite Rider first. Our hero does fine on his own against the new guys, but
in last few minutes, a revived Kaijin army literally comes out of nowhere. Fortunately, the other 8 Riders show up to lend Supes
some assistance!
*Takasugi Shunsuke appears!

Number Ten's Birth! Kamen Riders Back Together Again!! (1984): Oki Kazuya/Super-1 & his 8 Rider buddies welcome
ZX to the family, but only after V3 clears up a little misunderstanding between them.
*Takasugi Shunsuke appears!

Kamen Rider: SD Riders (1993): Super-1 chills with V3 & X-Rider, and participates in the amusing final "battle".
